It is very seldom that one has a chance to photograph lightning. There is usually a heavy rain storm that obscures the lightning itself. This photograph was taken from my balcony on the very top of St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands. We had just finished up a meeting of the Virgin Islands Professional Photographers Association. Just as the last photographer was leaving the storm started to rock & roll. So I pick up my new Caonon EOS D60 Digital SLR, stuck a 16-35mm zoom on, mounted it on a tripod and ran outside. This photograph is a composite of 4 photographs, assembled in PHOTOSHOP. I used an exposure of 2 minutes at f/13. The trick is in the long exposures, as you never know exactly when you will have a strike. I don't think "Mother Nature unpluged" would be a good name for this shot. |
